San Mateo County Council of the Blind
by Frank Welte
In place of a December meeting, members of our San Mateo Council of the Blind and our friends will celebrate the season at our annual Holiday Party on Saturday, December 7, 2002 from noon to 3:00 PM at Harry's Hofbrau restaurant at 1909 El Camino Real in Redwood City. This is a chance for all of us to really socialize and get to meet each other in a relaxed and fun-filled manner.
The cost per person for this event is $7.50. Our chapter is subsidizing the additional cost. This will pay for your meal, beverage and a dessert. This does NOT include drinks from the bar or (dare I say it?) extra dessert. You must purchase tickets in advance to get this reduced meal price. You can purchase tickets from Phil Kutner, 1128 Tanglewood Way, San Mateo, CA 94403, Phone: (650) 349-6946. Phil also needs to know your preference for a main dish. We will have a CD player, so feel free to bring your favorite holiday music recordings to share with us. If you can't get your party ticket in advance you are still welcome to join us, but you'll have to pay the restaurant's regular, higher meal prices.
Our next bowling outing will be on Saturday, December 28 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the AMF Redwood Lanes at 2580 El Camino Real in Redwood City. Call me if you plan to bowl with us in December. Bring $11.00 to cover the cost for two games and rental of bowling shoes.
Thanks to your hard work SMCB has grown into one of the largest chapters of the California Council of the Blind. This means we are now strong enough to reach out into our local communities in a big way. To that end I will soon be contacting you about serving on one of our committees in order to move our work forward. Our constitution provides for the following committees:
• Governmental Affairs,
• Membership, and
I intend to supplement these with additional committees that may include:
• Constitution and Bylaws,
• Phone Tree,
• Public Relations, and
In future columns I shall explain my vision for each of these committees. If you have a preference contact me.
In the upcoming months you will hear about our exciting activities in community service. You may choose any of them and have an opportunity to help make our community a better place.
Bill Hobson and Phil Kutner attended the Silicon Valley Council of the Blind 15th anniversary celebration in Mountain View. We salute our larger and older sister chapter to our south and wish them much continued success.
Our next regular meeting will be held on January 6, 2003. Remember that we meet on the first Saturday of each month from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the A. P. Gianini branch of Bank of America at El Camino Real and 3rd Avenue in San Mateo. For further information or to give suggestions on how to make our chapter even more exciting, call me, Frank Welte, at (650) 508-8329, or send E-mail to email@example.com.
